GENERAL RULES
BACKSTAGE CONDUCT: A 10-point deduction will be taken from your score for misconduct in the dressing room and/or the backstage area.
Please keep all areas clean and free of litter, especially restrooms and dressing areas. For the safety of all, keep aisles and stairwells clear and do not block emergency exits. Dancers are only allowed backstage two
numbers prior to their performance and must clear the backstage immediately after.
CORRECTIONS: A rough draft of the Schedule will be posted online by FEBRUARY 22ND, along with a correction form to make changes to specific entries. The schedule and correction forms will be mailed. Corrections will not be taken by phone, however fax or email is acceptable. A follow-up phone call must be made to make sure we have received your fax/email.
RE-DANCES are allowed if less then 80% of the routine was completed and it is a technical malfunction. If a re- dance is approved the group is still eligible for all awards.
CELL PHONES should be turned to the off or vibrate mode while seated in the house section of the theatre/ ballroom during competition. Cellular phone use should be limited to the lobby area of the venue.
DRESSING ROOMS: We ask dancers to use the backstage entrance, and the dressing rooms assigned to their studio. Students and instructors will not be allowed in the dressing room area or backstage without a wrist band. Parents are not allowed backstage unless their child is under 18.
GREEN ROOM: This room is for teachers and studio owners only, where coffee and light snacks will be provided. Adjudication sheets will be left in this room for pick up.
CAMERAS & VIDEO EQUIPMENT: Flash photography is strictly prohibited during competition due to the negative impact it places on dancers while performing. Flash photography is only permitted during the awards ceremony. Videotaping by individuals at any ARTISTS EMERGE competition is prohibited. Violations will result in disqualification of the affiliated organization. This rule will be strictly enforced to protect the integrity of individual choreography.
MISSING DANCERS: All dancers missing must be announced by the M.C. and the information must be given at least 3 numbers in advance.
REHEARSAL TIMES will be assigned to each group to ensure a more efficient rehearsal for each group. We will also be opening the barre room (located in the basement) for those groups who need extra time or space. The rehearsal rooms should not be used as a meeting place or hang out spot, as we have limited space available.
PROPS: If your number contains the use of props, please contact us to make arrangements for drop off/pick up times and location.
All routines must be appropriate for family viewing. Inappropriate routines will be stopped and/or disqualified.
Dancers may compete in more than one number in their CATEGORY and age division.
FINALS CRITERIA: For a soloist or duet to make the finals they must get a diamond and they can come from any division. Out of the possible 18 groups, 6 are wild card, 4 are open, 4 are advanced, 4 are inter. However if no intermediate group gets at least a Platinum than we only take 2 for finals. These numbers are subject to change if variety acts such as singers or guest performers are added AND the overall curve of the Judges scores over the competition.
WILD CARD CRITERIA - Wildcards Can only be given to Advanced or Open and a Novice group if they score high enough. This category is based entirely on Judges Choice. All Novice performers in the finals are performing as a showcase and not in a competitive setting.
During the finals the judges have the option to change their minds based on seeing all the acts from the entire competition. This has the most impact on the ICON AWARD & CHOREOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR as the final winner is based on overall score and judges agreement.
NO TEACHERS OR PROFESSIONAL DANCERS ARE ALLOWED TO COMPETE IN ANY CATEGORY OTHER THAN “OPEN” OR “PROFESSIONAL HIP HOP CREWS”.
No use of fire, glass or live animals on stage. Stage must be left clean by performers. No coaching from audience.
